The scholarships will help students continue their studies or improve their school or artistic results
On October 5th, 21 children and young people enrolled in Hope and Homes for Children programmes in Iași received excellence scholarships from the BRD Groupe Société Générale, so they would be able to continue their studies or improve their skills and reach excellence in those areas where they have great results. The scholarship-award event, which took place at the Inclusion Centre in Iași, was attended by winners, representatives of BRD Groupe Société Générale, Hope and Homes for Children and the General Directorate for Social Assistance and Child Protection (DGASPC) Iași, teachers and parents.
The 21 children and young people are 11 to 24 years old and they are students with very good school results or with different artistic talents and skills. They have won prizes and awards in competitions and school olympiads on subjects such as chemistry, mathematics, computer science, literature, foreign languages, religion, psychology, history or in national and international artistic competitions for music, drawing, acting, reading, dancing or photography. The scholarships received will help them to continue their studies or to practice in order to develop their skills and to continue to win at school or extracurricular competitions and contests.
The scholarships beneficiaries were selected out of the cases in the Hope and Homes for Children portfolio, being children or young people who are welfare benefits recipients or coming from old-type institutions, from alternative forms of protection or from socio-economically vulnerable families. In 2018, 85 primary school, secondary school, high school and undergraduate students, enrolled in Hope and Homes for Children programmes in seven counties and Bucharest, Sectors 5 and 6, received excellence scholarships from BRD Groupe Société Générale. Of these, 27 scholarships were awarded to high school students, and 17 to undergraduate students. Two of the young people who have received scholarships from BRD Groupe Société Générale will use them to study for a master's degree in China and Germany, and one young woman will be supported to finish a doctor’s degree in Romania.
The excellence scholarships have been awarded by BRD Groupe Société Générale since 2015 based on an educational programme run by Hope and Homes for Children. From these scholarships benefit high school students or undergraduate students from poor families and disadvantaged areas and aim to support access to high school or higher education. In addition, the BRD scholarships are also intended for teenagers or young people in the protection system who have special talents or skills and need support to continue their undergraduate or postgraduate studies.
“A change to education is a chance to a better future. This is why BRD Groupe Société Générale supports children and young people who strive to excel, to improve their skills or to access opportunities to study that otherwise would be just be a dream. For four years we have been supporting talented children in Hope and Homes for Children programmes to make their dreams come true”, said Adrian Jantea, Regional Manager - BRD Groupe Société Générale.
"I, along with the other children who received scholarships, want to thank for your help. These funds will help some of us to continue our studies with the best results. From the youngest to the oldest, we all dream of a brilliant career in a honourable and moral field, and the support provided by Hope and Homes for Children and BRD Groupe Société Générale helps us to fulfil this dream. Also, thank you for speaking very highly of us, for giving us courage and for making us smile, by helping us to fulfil our dreams", said Daniela Rosu (16 years old), a scholarship beneficiary.
