From August 6 to November 30, Holcim Romania have a new edition of the Build a House, Give a Home campaign.
Hope and Homes for Children and Holcim Romania are continuing the strategic partnership set up in 2017, whereby the cement producer is supporting the building of small group homes for the children who are part of the Foundation’s programme to close down old-type institutions. In the Build a House, Give a Home campaign, Holcim pledges to donate 1 leu to the Foundation for each bag of Tenco additive binder for bricklaying and plastering sold from August 6 to November 30, 2018.
Hope and Homes for Children aims at closing down all the old-type institutions, the so-called orphanages, in Romania. The Foundation’s programmes seek to replace the institutionalised child protection system with a new system, centred on the idea of family; this is done through family reintegration, where possible, or by placing children currently in orphanages with specialised social workers or in small group homes. In these homes, children and young people can live in an environment that resembles family life as closely as possible, they receive care, education, emotional support and counselling towards the development of the skills they will need for an independent living.
The partnership between Holcim Romania and Hope and Homes for Children started in 2017, when the cement producer initiated a campaign whereby they donated the money equivalent of one kilogram of cement for each Duraditiv Structo Plus cement bag they sold. The campaign raised 300,000 EUR, which was donated to the Foundation. The money is presently being used to build two new small-group homes; their development is part of the plan to close down two placement centres, namely Robin Hood in Bucharest Sector 4 and Elena Doamna in Piatra Neamț.
This year, from August 6 to November 30, Holcim Romania will be running a new edition of the Build a House, Give a Home campaign, donating to Hope and Homes for Children 1 leu for each bag of Tenco additive binder for bricklaying and plastering sold. During the campaign, in addition to buying the Tenco product, users who will visit www.construiesc-singur.ro are invited to draw an illustration of how they picture “at home” for the children in old-type institutions. Holcim Romania will organise the drawings in an online gallery and the best ones will be included in a children’s colouring book. The children moving into the new homes built by the Foundation in this campaign will receive the drawings to paint or colour them and then perhaps to use them to decorate their new homes.
“We thank our partners at Holcim Romania for continuing to stand by us and for supporting our efforts to close down Romanian orphanages. Due to them and to many other generous people who support the Hope and Homes for Children programmes, hundreds of children have the opportunity to exchange life in an giant obsolete institution, where they are deprived of the care and attention they deserve, for a life close to that of a family, surrounded by love and support to pursue their dreams” – Ștefan Dărăbuș, Regional Director, Central and South Europe, Hope and Homes for Children
“Offering a chance to a normal life to institutionalized children is a noble objective, and we are proud to contribute to it, together with our customers who trust our products. The results of last year’s campaign convinced us that we can do more, and together with Hope and Homes for Children we want to continue to build these children’s dreams, to help them have a place they can call home.” – Horia Adrian, Holcim Romania CEO
