On June 7, His Excellency Paul Brummell, the UK Ambassador to Romania, hosted an event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Hope and Homes for Children in Romania. Hope and Homes for Children is a global organisation founded in the UK in 1994 by Mark and Caroline Cook. The couple set up an organisation that aimed at rebuilding the orphanages that had been destroyed in the Bosnian War. Working with the children in orphanages, they realised that the needs of orphan or abandoned children could not in fact be fulfilled in such institutions: what they needed was the love and care of a family.

In 1998, Hope and Homes for Children became active in Romania, aiming to close down all the old-type institutions in this country. The services developed by Hope and Homes for Children see the children transition from mammoth institutions, where they do not benefit from individual attention and affection, to systems build around the family concept, where their lives are closer to normal. Through the efforts of the Foundation and its partners, so far 5,185 children have been removed from the 55 orphanages closed down so far.

In 2018, Hope and Homes for Children is organising several events to celebrate its 20 years of activity in Romania and the tens of thousands of lives that have been improved in the process. The most recent event was hosted at the residence of His Excellency Paul Brummell, the UK Ambassador to Romania, one of the most prominent Foundation supporters.

It was an opportunity to celebrate also the support granted by Ambassador Paul Brummel, whose mandate ends in July. In addition, architect Omid Ghannadi, Vladimir Drăghia and Cristian Botan, Hope and Homes for Children supporters, have received the title of #TeamHope Ambassador. They received the honorary title as a token of gratitude for their involvement, dedication and support for the Foundation; each of them has been a constant supporter of the Foundation projects, participating and raising funds in sports event s.

The evening was rounded off with and unplugged concert by Holograf, who were cheered enthusiastically by the guests. The event was attended by many company representatives, as well as supporters and partners of the Foundation.

Due to the support of companies and individuals, Hope and Homes for Children has managed in its 20 years’ activity to grant support to over 50,000 children and young people.
