“Childhood is the most beautiful period in someone’s life. Or so should it be. Unfortunately, for many children, this chapter of their lives is almost non-existent: it is only a sad stage in a life dominated by difficulties. I ran the Bucharest Marathon together with Team Hope to support the Hope and Homes for Children cause, I ran to change for good the lives of the children. We are sure that, through our contribution, we can bring a glimmer of hope and we can give children back, at least in part, the childhood that fate has stolen from them.” - - Doru Trascău, The Mono Jacks lead singer
Amalia Enache, who has been Hope and Homes for Children Ambassador for eight years, and Gianina Corondan, an active supporter of the Foundation, came to the Team Hope tent to encourage the runners.
It is great that tens of thousands of runners have competed today not only in running, but also in the good deeds that each one does for the organization they support. I thank the 270 runners who have supported Hope and Homes for Children today. Go, Team Hope!” - Dragoș Bucurenci, Hope and Homes for Children Development Director
“It is a great joy to see that the number of Hope and Homes for Children supporters increasing with each competition. Unfortunately, the number of vulnerable children is not decreasing. Just recently I had a case at PRO TV News that touched a chord in the whole country. A little girl from a poor family said that she went to school without anything to eat, that she would like to eat some biscuits and mashed potato with steak. It is this kind of vulnerable children, from disadvantaged families, that all our friends run for. Not only have they made a physical effort, but they also have made an effort with their hearts.” - Amalia Enache, Hope and Homes for Children Ambassador
Volunteers from the Medical Students' Society of Bucharest (SSMB) and from Tășuleasa Social supported Team Hope runners at the water point stop and at the Team Hope tent in the Constitution Square. Altogether, almost 70 volunteers joined Team Hope members at this edition of the Bucharest Marathon.
Not only famous persons participated in the competition, but also amateur runners, professional athletes and companies’ employees who chose to support Hope and Homes for Children. Raluca Teodorescu and Marius Bușcă, members of Team Hope, won second place in the half-marathon race for women and men, respectively and dedicated their prises to Romania’s vulnerable children.
All these runners and volunteers wanted to support the Boer children to stay with their father. The father takes care of the children on his own, after their mother left them in February this year. The family is very vulnerable and needs support and assistance so that the father will not be forced to abandon the children in the child protection system. The minors live with their father in a shabby house inherited from their paternal grandfather. Sometimes his mother calls and promises them that she will send them money and things, but so far she has not really done anything and the children have little hope. In order to support his family, the father works in the village, helping his neighbours with chores and receiving money or food in exchange. The money raised by the Team Hope runners at Bucharest Marathon will help the Boer family to enjoy minimum conditions for a decent living. The funds will be used to strengthen the current house, as well as to purchase some animals for the development of a subsistence household and suitable furniture, clothes, footwear and school supplies for the four children.
The participation of the Hope and Homes for Children runners in the 11th edition of the Raiffeisen Bank Bucharest Marathon was possible thanks to the companies Arval BNP Paribas, COS, Deutsche Bank Romania, Henkel, Holcim Romania, JYSK Romania, RSM, Samsung, Samsung SSCE, Skanska, Softelligence, UiPath Romania. Team Hope’s partners were: NAN Events, Solaris, Fitio, Radisson Blu, Godmother and Elevate. Main sponsor: City Insurance.
So far, up to 2,770 runners and 500 volunteers have joined Team Hope, supporting the cause of Romania's vulnerable children.
The 11th edition of the Bucharest International Marathon lured over 19,000 runners during the two-day competition, on Saturday, October 13th and Sunday, October 14th.
“It’s a pleasure and a great honour for me to be part of Team Hope this Year. Over the past years I participated as a spectator and I always saw people running for these charitable causes. So I wanted to be part of such a project, it really happened and I'm happy I was able to help." - Andrei Zamfir, The Mono Jacks’ guitarist
"I chose to be part of the Hope and Homes for Children team because, recently, I have become a dad and I have realized how important the parent-child relationship is and especially how important it is for the little one to grow up in proper conditions. I believe what Hope and Homes for Children does is wonderful, I support them and I will continue to run for the children in need. Go, Team Hope!” - Alex Călin, actor
"I wanted to participate in this marathon to support the cause of Hope and Homes for Children, of those children in need. I wanted to be able to help them. It is enough that nowadays people are extremely indifferent and think only of themselves. We need to care for each other and to help those who are in need. I am a professional runner, all my life I wanted to be one of the best, I practiced sport for myself, so I considered it was time to run in another direction. Therefore, as a member of Team Hope, I chose to do something good for myself, but also for those around me.” - Marius Bușcă, second place winner at half-marathon
